CAS Sunday Lunch at

  Minh Minh Saigon Soul Restaurant

94 Victoria St, Richmond

9 February 2020

Review by Rosemary Mangiamele

The midday lunch held at the Minh Minh and Saigon Soul Restaurant in Richmond offered a wonderful opportunity to catch up with fellow artists, friends and family, over a banquet meal, on Sunday 9th February. The atmosphere was electric, with the guests obviously enjoying themselves, as they mingled upon arrival, over a glass of champagne or fruit juice.

Mingling guests

We had the whole floor upstairs to ourselves, and were seated at 2 long tables, with place names adding a personal touch. Once seated, we enjoyed a delicious entree of rice paper rolls, curry puffs and chicken satay skewers to begin with. The main course which followed was East meets West: Vietnamese chicken curry, grilled marinated chicken, Saigon Street fried pork with fish sauce and coleslaw, Laos style beef stir fry, basil and chilli - with steamed rice. All delicious. And if this was not enough, a large serving of fried ice cream followed.

Animated conversations

There were such a range of wonderful guests, and the highlight was a rendition of the Italian aria ‘Che gelida manina’, from Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’, by Yoshi and Emilio.

More animated conversations, and the arrival of entrées

When people were not singing, they were engaged in animated conversations throughout our group. It was all happy noise, but at one stage we did get a polite request from staff to perhaps be just a little quieter, as a downstairs customer had complained. I think our “quieter” lasted for about 5 minutes, if that.

With grateful thanks to Robert Lee, Cressida Fox and Fred Fair for organising this event, it was very enjoyable indeed.
