Angel Art
mixed media on paper

Angel 1

Linda's works exhibited at the Fitzroy Library are best described by the artist's beautiful statement and title. Linda calls it 'ANGEL ART' and believes that angels are everywhere, they are there always, where you find them. They are the helpers in the world and in it's beauty. Eternal, since the beginning of time to it's end. They are hidden but always there to help, protect, love and guide.

Linda's 15 works are executed in mixed media on paper, some are small and some larger. All have vibrant colours with images enclosed in black. This is reminiscent of stained glass windows and mosaics, very rich imagery and colours. Linda's angels come in a variety of hues, red, purple, pink, green, orange winged either ready to fly or motionless and very still.

In
Angel 1, the Angel has red wings, arms clasped in supplication, seems to be bringing a message of peace. In Angel 2, I imagine the creation of earth, there are fish, starfish, a white bird with wings outstretched flying down towards nature's bounty, cherries and apples abound. This garden of Eden is watched over by a Guardian Angel, it's wings folded standing sentinel.

Angel 2

Some of the images convey Australian flora such as gum nuts and gum trees and leaves. Some surfaces are raised as if padded in a quilt and some are flat. Angel 6 has architectural structures, man made windows and houses on the edges of blue waters. Alas, the Angel here remained hidden, much as I looked, I could not find it

In
Angel 7, there is a chubby, red headed angel blowing clouds or bubbles down onto the world. There is a long legged multi coloured bird looking curiously on the flowers, pebbles and red and yellow waves. And in a corner at the bottom, there is a green field with images of crosses and grave like mounds of earth. Is this the Eternal Angel in the cycle of life? In Angel 14 there seems to be a lonely human being resting on a multi coloured cloth, surrounded by sand and angels in full flight. In other works, the angels are either in flight or very still, watching over land, sea and sky, fields ready for ploughing, flowers and fruit - the earth's bounty. Some works are dense with images others are sparse. There is also a very delicate ink drawing of an angel with golden halo flying over images that to me seemed like hills, trees and dwellings. Yes, angels ARE everywhere, sometimes you just have to look for them.
