FAQ for Vitreous Exhibition

About Vitreous:

Our second Vitreous Exhibition will be open to the public  at the Herring Island Gallery 11.30am – 4.30pm for six weekends on the following dates: 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24 February & 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 March 2019. The show opens 12-2pm on Saturday, 9 February 2019. This exhibition is part of the Herring Island Summer Arts Festival and features artworks by Members of the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria. The Festival consists of four leading Melbourne-based arts organizations who show their work in the gallery on the Island, a unique arts venue in a bushland setting close to the heart of Melbourne.

The theme for our exhibition is Vitreous - is a contemporary exhibition in glass and ceramic art. Some of the exhibiting artists will be present throughout the exhibition to talk about the works.

How to get there:

A Parks Victoria punt to the Island runs 11.30am till 4.30pm from Como Landing, South Yarra on these days (see Melway Map 2M C2).

About the Herring Island Gallery:

Herring Island Gallery is the converted scout hall. The architectural makeover is inspired by its setting and is a gift to the arts by the Myer Foundation and the talents of architect, Greg Burgess.

The festival complements the existing permanent collection of sculpture placed around the Island. More information about the permanent collection and the Festival - including the exhibition dates/times for the other participating groups - can be found on these websites:
