What
part of the process of creating art do you like best?
I like
all the parts of creating Art, but to me the most exiting
moment is when I feel the inspiration, and at that moment,
everything becomes more clear and evident; I don’t
need to think or hesitate or reflect. All I need is to
follow my instinct.
What
is your working environment like?
Normally my working environment
is or looks a bit chaotic, specially when I am in the
process of creating. I want my art material and my
references to be around me so I can reach them easily, and
without having to hesitate or delay.
What
kind of (formal & informal) art training have you had?
I
studied in The Fine Arts Academy of Bologna, but I was
always surrounded by my father and mother’s art work
and they gave me the love and the joy of creating art.
How
has your art training affected the kind of art you produce?
My
training was important for my artistic production, making
me aware of theories and techniques about art, and allowing
me to have access to the immense world of art, so that I
could easily find solutions and produce exactly what I
wanted.
Name
some important influences and inspirations in your art
career.
I had
many influences throughout my artistic life, but I think
some of the most important names for me are: Max Ernst,
Rene Magritte, Umberto Boccioni, Franz Marc, De Chirico,
Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Modigliani, Paul Cezanne &
Caravaggio!
What
has been the most difficult thing you have encountered in
your work?
The
most difficult thing in my work has always been and still
is the lack of time and not being able to create when the
creation is already in my head and I can’t express
it.
Have
there been major turning points in your art career?
The
biggest turning point in my career, was when I discovered
that I liked Abstract Art and that I enjoyed creating it.
Before that, I used to think that the only acceptable art,
would have been the realistic one.
What
has been the highlight of your art career?
The
highlight of my career was when I won a Special Prize for
the International Art Prize ‘Art and Religion’
in Genoa, Italy in 1975, and in 1984, When I had a solo
Exhibition in the National Gallery of Quito, Ecuador.

comment about “Concealed and Manifest”
There
is a harmony in nature, that when discovered can bring
peace and balance in our lives. It is manifest, but
concealed at the same time. We need to have open eyes and
observant souls, to discover it.
