Herring Island Summer Arts Festival 2010
The Society's first exhibition in the New Year runs 20, 21, 27, 28 February & 6, 7, 8 March at the Herring Island Gallery.
The show opened 12-2pm on Saturday, 20 February 2010. See footage of the opening here.
About our exhibition:
Our exhibibition, part of the Herring Island Summer Arts Festival, features artists from CAS and four other leading Melbourne-based arts organizations who showed their work in the gallery on the Island, reawakening of the original concept of an arts venue in a bushland setting close to the heart of Melbourne.
The theme for our exhibition is Contemporary by Nature - a contemporary interpretation of nature in painting, drawing and sculpture. Works will show interpretations of the natural world in painting, photography, works on paper & sculpture, by a wide range of Australian contemporary artists. Some of the exhibiting artists will be present throughout the exhibition to talk about the works.
How to get there:
A Parks Victoria punt to the Island runs 11.30am till 5 pm from Como Landing, South Yarra on these days (see Melway Map 2M C2).

About the Herring Island Gallery:
Herring Island Gallery is the converted scout hall. The fireplace and the marks on the floor are reminders of the building's past use. The architectural makeover is inspired by its setting and is a gift to the arts by the Myer Foundation and the talents of architect, Greg Burgess.
The festival complements the existing permanent collection of sculpture placed around the Island. More information about the permanent collection and the Festival - including the exhibition dates/times for the other participating groups - can be found on these websites:
